BP #6 - Mini Essay on Informed Consent

In the book, some reseachers volated the procedure for reseaching. They got patient cells without their consent. Although they didn't get ant profit from them,  they has effects on  their patient's family. By signing informed consent, patients should be known that they will confront from treatment, then they can have enough prepare for overcoming difficulties or obtain benefits. By giving the form to patient, doctors or hospitals can avoid some potential disputes that would happen about the patient's treatment. It is a protection for both of them. There is no reason for them to refuse it.
In my home country, before research practice, researchers must to demand patients or volunteers to sign the informed consent. If they didn't sign it, they cannot start research practice. If doctoers or researchers did without their consent, they will have big trouble, such like dismissing them form their post, being putting into jail, and being imfamous people. For patients or volunteers, the society will give them help that solving their living difficulties.
Before, many of them just know they have to sign an informed consent before reseaching, and they don't pay much attention to the content. That give more unethical doctors and researchers some chance to ues them, then hurt them. Today, patients or volunteers have more awareness about their rights. When they sigh an informed consent, they will carefully read it. They know the informed consent is their umbrella. Besides, a lot of law for protecting patients and volunteers appear, they also limit doctors or researchers behavors.

  1. I have learned the differences between the past and today's research requirements. The illustration is very clear and I can understand it easily. Do you think doing research in people’s bodies without their consents is a terrible thing?
